Voters say by 46 percent to 32 percent that if they were making the decision on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court they would confirm her, according to a Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll conducted June 9-10. Twenty-two percent were undecided.

Republicans say they would not confirm her by a 55 percent to 19 percent margin, while Democrats back the choice 69 percent to 12 percent and independents by 46 percent to 33 percent.

That said, for all the coverage on her selection, voters don't seem to know much about her in terms of forming an opinion. Aside from the one-fifth of voters that were undecided on whether they'd confirm her, twenty-five percent answered "can't say" when asked if they had a favorable or unfavorable opinion of her, and 21 percent never heard of Sotomayor. Those who did express an opinion saw her favorably by a 36 percent to 18 percent margin.

Fox asked respondents about the much-circulated Sotomayor quote that has caused controversy: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

Fifty-eight percent said they did not agree with that statement while 32 percent did. But even so, by a 67 percent to 29 percent margin, voters said the remark should not disqualify her from serving on the court, with even 51 percent of Republicans taking that position.
