Arkansas Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln, now in her second term, makes what Public Policy Polling calls a "tepid" showing in a survey conducted March 20-22, with a job approval rating and a lead over potential challengers that indicate she may be vulnerable in 2010.

Forty-five percent approve of her performance compared to 40 percent who do not with 15 percent undecided. She does badly among independents (29 percent of the sample) who disapprove of her performance by 50 percent to 31 percent.

In a potential match-up against former Republican U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin, she leads 46 percent to 37 percent with 16 percent undecided, even though 58 percent of voters don't know Griffin well enough to express an opinion on whether they view him favorably or not.

Against, state Sen. Gilbert Baker Lincoln leads 48 percent to 37 percent with 16 percent undecided. Baker, too, is not that well-known statewide with 55 percent "not sure" of their opinion of him.

The margin of error is 4 points.

"these numbers don't exactly indicate that Lincoln is in big trouble, but they are somewhat weak for an incumbent," said PPP's Dean Debnam. You would usually expect someone who's been in statewide office for more than a decade to hold a double-digit lead over a couple of potential opponents with minimal name recognition."
