Another National Poll Puts Obama Back Ahead

On the heels of a Washington Post/ABC News poll showing Barack Obama reclaiming the lead in the presidential race, a Fox News/Opinion Dynamics survey conducted Sept. 22-23 has Obama leading McCain 45 percent to 39 percent with 2 percent preferring someone else and 13 percent undecided. The margin of error is 3 points.

Among some findings in the Fox poll:

  • Voters were asked which candidate they would most likely go to hear if he or she came to their town, and 42 percent said Obama, 24 percent answered McCain, 14 percent said Sarah Palin and poor Joseph Biden would only get 3 percent to turn out for him.
  • Considering the possibility that Palin or Biden might have to ascend to the Presidency, 44 percent said they would be extremely or very comfortable with Biden becoming President compared to 32 percent for Palin.
  • On negativity in the campaign, voters split about evenly on whether McCain is making unfair attacks on Obama, but say 56 percent to 36 percent that Obama is not making unfair attacks on McCain.
  • Voters favor Obama on the economy by 47 percent to 37 percent, on doing something about energy independence by 47 percent to 37 percent, on health care by 53 percent to 32 percent and on taxes by 46 percent to 39 percent.
  • Voters favor McCain on handling the war on terrorism by 50 percent to 38 percent and on Iraq by 49 percent to 41 percent.
