Obama Ahead in AP Poll

Barack Obama leads John McCain 47 percent to 41 percent in an AP-Ipsos poll conducted July 31-Aug. 4. The margin of error is 3.1 percent. McCain leads by 10 points among white voters and runs evenly with Obama among men. Obama leads by 13 points among women, 30 points among voters under the age of 34, and by 55 points among blacks, Hispanics and other minorities.

The other polls out, including the two daily tracking polls, pretty much have the race as close or a toss-up.

Gallup's daily tracking poll today has Obama ahead 47 percent to 43 percent with 4 percent undecided and 6 percent expressing no opinion. the margin of error is 2 points. A few days ago, they were tied at 44 percent each and back on July 26 Obama had opened his biggest lead at 9 points.

Rasmussen Reports' daily tracking poll has both men locked at 44 percent.

An Associated TV/Zogby poll conducted July 31-Aug.1 has McCain ahead 42 percent to 41 percent with 13 percent undecided. The margin of error is 3.1 percent. Obama had led by 10 points in an early July Reuters/Zogby poll. Zogby said McCain had gained among young voters, women and independents.
