Echoing other recent polls, a USA Today/Gallup survey conducted Aug. 21-23 shows that John McCain far and away is seen as more able to handle the responsibilities of commander-in-chief than Barack Obama. However, Obama has the advantage over McCain on a host of qualities and characteristics other than foreign policy and national security.
Eighty-percent of Americans believe McCain is more prepared to be commander-in-chief compared to 53 percent for Obama. Only 18 percent don't believe that of McCain, while 44 percent say Obama cannot handle those duties.
Obama leads McCain by 7 points or more in four different areas: caring about peoples' needs, ability to work with both parties to get things done, independence, and sharing peoples' values.
Comments
McCain has reached across the aisle so many times he has trouble with the GOP. Immigration, campaign finance, the environment, tax law, name it, it got to be law because of him. He reaches across for the BETTER, as opposed to Obama who supports FISA and all kinds of other bad laws.
With a VETO PROOF DEM majority in Congress and McCain in the WH this country will be safe and if Congress actually WORKS we will have the DEM agenda signed into law. McCain, unlike Obama, respects the rules, respects the voters and will never circumvent the Congress. Obama will use smear tactics to try to win, but he will loose, NOT because he is black but because if he were WHITE he would never have run to begin with. It takes more than color to make a president, it takes honor, integrity, and experience, I trust McCain to lead us, and will vote DEM for all State, Local and House and Senate offices, EXCEPT president. Obama is NOT FIT to lead us, he is all show and no go. 20 years in a racist church, 17 years with Rezko and others like him, a total lie of a record, thin as it is, and a COMPLETE rejection of MLK'S vision: judging people by the content of their character NOT the color of their skin. This ego driven man with his VISION of taking over this country, not helping it, of 8 more years of a Bush-like man with no experience to back up his lofty words, which frankly, aren't that lofty, no ability to guide us thru this very bad time, proven by his pick of Biden to do the work he can not do, and forcing a nomination on us makes me sick.
We need an independent party now more than ever, and this man needs to be held accountable for his use of race, his gender bashing and his lies. In his short and unproductive career he has not done a thing for the poor, Blacks or anyone other than himself and his wife, who now has a mid 6 figure income thanks to him. They can not be allowed to win, they must be defeated, ONLY the top of the ticket. We need to split our votes, DEM for both houses, STATE governments, and local, and McCain for president.

The word "more" is misused. Sentence should read "Eighty-percent of Americans believe McCain is prepared to be commander-in-chief aompared to 53 percent for Obama." The insertion of "more" completely changes meaning of statement and is misleading.
