Symbols of a Campaign?

In September 1979, President Jimmy Carter collapsed in a road race. The images of the world's most powerful man faltering contributed to a growing public perception that he was a weak president. Just two months later, Sen. Ted Kennedy announced he would challenge the incumbent in the Democratic primaries.

Yesterday, Sen. John McCain's bus -- the "Straight Talk Express" -- was involved in a bad crash with a blue van, according to the Miami Herald. It's not exactly the images you want broadcast on the evening news.

Update: As DailyKos notes, the story is "bursting with metaphors."

  1. Maybe if John McCain's bus "inflated their tires", then their won't run so FLAT.

  2. Per the Miami Herald. A van hit the bus and the driver of the van was charged. Why does this require comment? The only thing "bursting with metaphors" is the increasing name calling raging in most of the independent/progressive blogs I read.. Is there so much fear of losing that the only thing left is trash talk?

    Literally "Get Serious"

  4. While I agree that this story shouldn't require comment, there are some (largely uneducated) voters who will pay attention to metaphors, the Jimmy Carter story definitely shows that.
