The centrist Democratic Leadership Council holds its national meeting in Chicago -- just a block away from Sen. Barack Obama's campaign headquarters. However, Obama will not attend.
Even though the Illinois senator has moved to the center on so many issues in recent weeks, he's not willing to incur the wrath of liberal Democrats by speaking at the convention of the group described by many as "Republican-lite."
With none of the Democratic presidential candidates in attendance at last year's meeting either, it's fair to say the DLC has officially lost its mojo.

Thank God! Obama is still a cipher, but at least he is not a suck up to the DLC, knock on wood. Paul Krugman hits the nail on the head today http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/30/opinion/30krugman.html?hp
I'm glad the DLC convinced most liberal Dems to be sensible about defense issues. Now perhaps the liberals can convince the moderates and conservatives to be sensible about economic issues. I hope. The NY Times, NPR, and just about every liberal organization I know espouses Free Trade as if Laissez Faire economics were some bright idea we had never explored before. I still think the Dems are in the thrall of the idea , but hopefully Obama will arrive at a happier vision for our future-one where more people in this country enjoy a higher standard of living because they are better employed, we have a centralized transportation system built on rail instead of autos, and we have universal health care.
