Lawmakers have learned to give less credence to mass-produced letters they receive on policy issues.
So, House Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio is asking Republicans to send letters to local newspapers and to their representatives that feature a personal touch.
Here's an excerpt from the e-mailed request Boehner sent through the National Republican Congressional Committee this afternoon.
Speaker Pelosi and President Obama are pushing legislation that will force millions of families out of their health care plans and into a costly, lower-quality, government-run system - and they want a vote on it in a matter of weeks.
We need to stop them right here, right now. Here's how you can help:
Please write at least one "letter to the editor" of your local newspaper or contact your Congressman and explain - in your own words - why you oppose government-run health care.
Then Boehner suggested three "facts" about costs, job losses and forfeited coverage that could be included in a letter. So much for creative thinking.
