So says Fox News, which surveyed 900 registered voters on May 12-13 on a variety of subjects, including the Supreme Court vacancy. Overall, 16 percent of respondents thought Winfrey would do well on the high court -- and 23 percent of Democrats and 10 percent of Republicans.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton did better among both groups, as did former Vice President Al Gore. But could either of those two get a book club going inside the reclusive court? Or shower the audiences at oral arguments with new cars?
The survey was silent on whether Obama should nominate Dr. Phil McGraw, whose expertise in clinical psychology could come in handy in rounding up five-justice majorities in close cases.

This is a legal position. Supreme Court Justices have to be well versed in Constitutional law, not movie stars. Let's not make a mockery of the highest court in the land.

What is one mockery, more or less, among liberals and students of Saul Alinsky? A mockery has already been made of the highest offices in the land. I can already see Oprah channeling some medium or old age new ager like Edgar Cayce or, perhaps, the venerable Uri Geller for guidance on important matters. (Forget those quaint old documents of the past, the Constitution or the Federalist Papers!). This is the brave new Amerika!

1) it is spelled America
2) Saint Ronnie and his wife used Ouija Boards to decide important issues of state
3) Nobody is nominating Oprah for anything
4) It is YOUR president that said about the constitution oh that Shi#%& piece of paper
5) Those Quaint old papers, which we revere, while your folk shred them...
6) Obama a constitutional scholar knows what it is, and has probably READ the Federalis Papers, do you seriousy think George the Second did??

Once again, Republicans are constrained by their slow minds and lack of critical and innovative thinking. In fact, some of the greatest justices did not have strong backgrounds. Earl Warren was in sales before he became a governor, and during the 18th century, many businessmen and social agitators were nominated. The Supreme Court decides HOW we interpret laws, and a lot of that is determined by cultural time period. While the Strict Constructionists blather on about "original intent," in fact, the "original intent" of the founders was to have a Slave Empire, only allow 36 year old males with property to vote and to deny women the right to own property (a situation finally decided in favor of women in 1960!) . Frankly, I'd rather have a well educated lawyer who has had NO judicial experience, but has spent his life ARGUING for the civil rights of others IN FRONT of courts, not sitting behind them in judgement over others with no public advocacy experience. Oprah, while not quite a lawyer, because of her money and life experience could probably employ other lawyers that were fully competent to educate her quickly in the precedents concerning whatever case was on hand, and I would probably be comfortable 99% of the time with her decisions.
