Kos Endorses a Republican

While Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader John Boehner clearly haven't figured out yet how to work together, left-wing blogger Markos Moulitsas and NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions just as clearly have.

How else to explain Moulitsas' endorsement of Sessions' favored candidate for Congress in the special election in New York's 23rd Congressional District?

Yes, that's the district newly confirmed Secretary of the Army John McHugh just vacated, where the anointed Republican candidate -- New York Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava -- has been the subject of local and national conservative scorn.

Now comes the endorsement by the left's premier blogger -- and the endorsement goes not to the Democratic candidate in the special election, but to the Republican.

When a piece by a left-wing blogger is headlined, "NY 23: The most liberal candidate leads (and it's not the Dem)," you know things have got to be screwy; and when it includes, after several paragraphs of set up, the conclusion, "So it's official, I'm rooting for the Republican to win," you know we've left screwy far behind and moved into downright bizarro-land.

Offered the opportunity to comment on receiving the endorsement of Moulitsas, Scozzafava campaign spokesman Matt Burns responded, "Dede is focused on getting out and meeting as many residents of the 23rd Congressional District as possible. The more people get to know her, the more they are embracing her candidacy. She's the only candidate in this race with a record of independent and principled leadership. Whether fighting for more good-paying jobs or articulating her ideas on reforming health care, Dede is the candidate who best represents the district and its hard-working people. She looks forward to fighting for the families of the 23rd district in Congress."

I just have to wonder -- is this a case of Sessions cleverly seducing Kos? Or is the shoe on the other foot -- that is, has Kos infiltrated the NRCC candidate recruitment infrastructure?

One thing's for sure -- Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman is going to have to upgrade his campaign web site server. Because if he can't crash his web site with online donations on the basis of a Kos endorsement of his GOP opponent, well, he needs a new campaign team.
