Check out New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine's latest television spot.
Is it just me, or does this leave you with the impression that the incumbent has caved to pressure from powerful Democratic Party bosses, and announced his decision to let Barack Obama run at the top of the ticket with Corzine as lieutenant governor?
This ad is notable for four things:
1) It's Corzine's first positive ad of the campaign season.
2) While he is featured in the video (as a supporting actor), he does not speak.
3) A significant portion of the screen time (including the closing shot) is used to focus on rally signs that read "Obama & Corzine/Working Together/To Keep New Jersey Working."
4) Though the ad just went on the air, it makes no mention whatsoever of state sen. Loretta Weinberg, who, we were told last week, was Corzine's "official" choice for Lt. Governor.
That Corzine should be doing everything he can to wrap himself around Obama is not surprising -- according to the latest survey from the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, Obama is still hugely popular among Democratic likely voters (where he registers a 90 percent job approval rating, against just 7 percent who disapprove), and generally popular among Independent and unaffiliated likely voters (where he registers a 54 percent job approval rating, against 38 percent who disapprove).
But spending money to create rally signs to create the visual impression that you're part of an Obama-led ticket?
The Obama-Corzine "ticket" is as much a scam as anything that ever came out of the mouth of this character.
In Hudson County, they must be rolling over in their graves. The ones who aren't still being processed, that is.
