Bill Clinton Over Jesse Jackson, Again

| | Comments (2)

After watching coverage last night of Bill Clinton's meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il, and reading more coverage this morning of his trip to recover two American journalists who had been held prisoner by the megalomaniac's regime, I'm sure I'm in good company when I say I'm concerned about the potential fallout from the whole exercise.

I am speaking, of course, about what the future holds for Jesse Jackson -- because I cannot think of anyone who is less happy with Bill Clinton today than is Jesse Jackson.

First, Clinton beat Jackson to the punch in the presidential sweepstakes, twice winning where Jackson twice had fallen short, and earning for himself the title "America's First Black President."

Then, Clinton got away with his extramarital sexual escapades, while Jackson did not.

Then, Clinton got away with ugly attacks against Barack Obama, while Jackson did not.

Now Clinton has trumped Jackson in the kissing-up-to-foreign-dictators-so-as-to-bring-home-hostages game, which was about all that Jackson had left.

What's next on the agenda for Clinton? Shaking down corporate America for "philanthropic funding?"

Oh, wait. Isn't that what this is all about?

I guess that just leaves this -- the one area of American cultural and political life where, no matter how hard he tries, Bill Clinton will simply never be able to trump Jesse Jackson.

  1. Leave it to the right to turn a humanitarian action and diplomatic success that saved the lives of two journalists into a chance to slap Clinton one more time. Jealousy is such an ugly quality. He was a better President even with impeachment than baby Bush who damn near destroyed the country.

  2. "...in the kissing-up-to-foreign-dictators-so-as-to-bring-home-hostages game." Kissing up? Game? I am at awe at the disrespect for the two journalist whose lives you reduce to a "game". I imagine if the "Right" had there way, the two would have been home after 12 years of hard labor.
