Jenny Sanford: The Politician's Wife

As the South Carolina dramedy -- "Sanford and Sin?" -- continues to play out, two things become increasingly evident:

First, potentially former Gov. Mark Sanford is driving his handlers crazy.

Second, his wife Jenny looks less and less like the politician's wife, and more and more like a politician herself -- and a pretty good one, at that.

She's even got her own fan club on Twitter.

Granted, the "fan club" is nothing more than an opportunity for some folks to cash in on Mrs. Sanford's legion of supporters, but the good folks at Café Press wouldn't have begun marketing the Team Jenny paraphernalia if they didn't anticipate there'd be a nice demand for it.

Spouses replacing husbands in office is nothing new -- see, for example, Sen. Jean Carnahan -- but usually, this happens in the wake of the spouse's death.

Of course, with Gov. Sanford's increasingly bizarre antics, Haley Joel Osment might soon be the only guy around who can see him.

  1. Jenny Sanford is too good and too smart for the hypocritical loser she married. She had a more impressive career going as well prior to them first meeting. It's a shame that gender roles are such that she (and Silda Spitzer, who is a similar case) stepped back to raise a family while their husbands ran for public office - both women probably would have achieved more and with far less disgrace.
