Retired General Wesley Clark has largely taken a beating in the national press for what he did, or did not, say about John McCain's military record. The conventional wisdom was that Clark's comments on "Face the Nation" this past Sunday eliminated him from contention as Barack Obam's running mate. But there appears to have been a pro-Clark backlash in the liberal media. The Columbia Journalism Review's Zachary Roth is getting some traction for his post attacking the mainstream media for their criticism of Clark.
And in our own CQ Politics VP Madness, Clark had already made it to the finals, facing off against Joe Biden as our readers' choice to be Obama's running mate. Biden was narrowly leading Clark, but since this week's story began dominating the political discussion, Clark has actually moved ahead of Biden, 51 percent to 48 percent.
