Pennsylvania: Burns Wins GOP Nod for Murtha Special

| | Comments (0)

Local Republicans in Pennsylvania's 12th district on Thursday evening picked businessman Tim Burns to be their nominee in the May 18 special election to replace the late Rep. John P. Murtha (D). Burns defeated 2008 GOP nominee, Bill Russell, by a vote of 86 to 46 among Republican activists in the district.

Burns will face Mark Critz, an aide to Murtha, on the May 18 ballot. Burns and Russell are both running in the GOP primary being held on the same day to determine the party's nominee for the November ballot. Critz also has a primary on May 18, however he is expected to win that.

CQ Politics currently rates this general election contest as a Tossup.
