Reid Trails Four Republicans

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is stuck around the 40 percent mark in general election match-ups with four hypothetical GOP challengers, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll of likely voters, conducted Feb. 2.

Reid's biggest polling gap comes against Las Vegas real estate developer Danny Tarkanian, who leads the incumbent 45 to 39 percent. Former Republican party chairwoman Sue Lowden tops Reid 45 to 39 percent, and former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle leads 44 to 40 percent.

Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, who is again eyeing a bid after being cleared of allegations he mishandled money while state treasurer, fares the worst of the four potential Republican nominees, but still beats Reid 44 to 41 percent. The margin of error was 4.5 percent.

Tarkanian has the highest name ID of the Republicans, probably thanks to his father, legendary college basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian. All four have net favorable ratings, though Lowden has the highest, at 48 percent favorable to 27 percent unfavorable for a net of 21 percent.

Angle is the least known of the Republicans, with 34 percent of likely voters unable to form an opinion of her. Twenty-six percent had no opinion of Krolicki, 24 percent none of Lowden and 14 percent of Tarkanian.

Fifty-five percent of likely voters, meanwhile, have an unfavorable opinion of Reid, including 46 percent who rate him "very unfavorably." Forty-four percent rate Reid favorably, 16 percent very favorably.
