EMILY's List has endorsed state Senate Majority Leader Colleen Hanabusa in her bid for Hawaii's open seat in Congress.

Hanabusa, who has been supported by EMILY's List in some of her past races, will face former Rep. Ed Case in the Democratic primary next September.

"Her dedication to public service and experience as a labor attorney, community organizer, and legislative leader is second to none," said EMILY's List President Ellen Malcolm in a statement. "In office, Colleen has not hesitated to take strong stands to protect the rights of women, children, and working families."

Rep. Neil Abercrombie, a Democrat, is retiring from Congress after 10 terms to run for governor, leaving a wide open race for his 1st Congressional District seat.

Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou is also running on the Republican side, and national Republicans have indicated that they are interested in supporting his bid.
