S.C. GOP Chair Says 'Time May Have Come' for Sanford to Leave

The walls are caving in fast on South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who is hearing more calls to resign after compounding the confession of an affair last week with the revelation on Tuesday that he believes his Argentine flame is his "soul mate."

State party Chairwoman Karen Floyd, who had tried to stay out of the matter, left handwriting on wall for Sanford in big, capital letters in a statement released to reporters by request on Wednesday.

"For the past two days, I have been speaking with Republican leaders across South Carolina. There is clearly a growing view that the time may have come for Gov. Sanford to remove himself and his family from the limelight, so that he can devote his efforts full-time to repairing the damage in his personal life," she said.

At least 13 of the 27 Republican senators in the state legislature have called on Sanford to resign.

Of course, Sanford is on his own timetable -- unless South Carolina legislators choose, by a two-thirds vote of each chamber, to make him the second governor impeached and removed from office this year. That threshold would be cleared in the Senate if the 13 Republican solons who have called for his resignation and all of the Democrats voted to remove him from office.

Sanford had come-to-Jesus calls today with three state Republican officials who had been giving him latitude -- Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint, and Rep. J. Gresham Barrett -- according to Politico.

  1. This fool doesn't know when to shut-the-hell up, does he. He should be made to resign just for being dense. He clearly has too much drama in his life to be an effective governor.
