Rep. Jerry Moran and fellow Rep. Todd Tiahrt are statistically tied in the race to get the Republican nomination for the seat being vacated by Sen. Sam Brownback who is running for governor, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted June 12-14.

Conservatives (59 percent of the sample) favor Tiahrt by 10 points and moderates (35 percent of the sample) prefer Moran by 15 points.

Moran leads 40 percent to 38 percent with 22 percent undecided. The margin of error is 4.6 points. Tiahrt and Moran have double-digit leads over each other at opposite ends of the age spectrum, with Tiahrt up by 11 points among voters between 18 and 34 and Moran leading by 12 points among seniors.

SurveyUSA also polled a primary for governor between Brownback and Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh and the result shows why it was no surprise that Thornburgh dropped out . Brownback led him by 58 percent to 19 percent.
