Is Obama Doing Too Much?

| | Comments (11)

Is Barack Obama trying to do too much at once? Should Timothy Geithner go? Jim Pinkerton and I ponder all this and more in our latest Bloggingheads.tv diavlog. And, once again, we argue over global warming because Pinkerton continues to insist that it ain't happening and that all those scientists who say it is are part of some politically-driven plot. Yes, he does. Really.

By the way, this was filmed hour before Chas Freeman withdrew his name from consideration as head of the National Intelligence Council. In the diavlog, I said that Freeman might survive and that the issue was only at Defcon 4 or so. So once again we learn, beware making predictions. By the way, in the above diavlog, Pinkerton predicted that Obama will serve no more than one term, and I was forced--practically against my will!--to remind him (oh so gently) that he had predicted that Obama would lose about 40 states in the November election. A lesson to us all.

  1. Why do you think Pres. Obama is doing too much?? Because he is trying to solve problems?? What do you want him to ignore?? Afghanistan?? Bush did that, Iraq?? yeah sure, the Economy??? that would work really well, Heatlh care??? Bush did that too... see where it has gotten us??? Education??? What is our ranking in the country now?? very low, thanks Bush... Energy??? ok.. lets see, you want 5 or 6 $$ a gallon gas again?? we can wait on it.. that should really help the people out of work and the homeless this year.

What else do you want him to ignore... don't you see it is all tied together.

  2. If your house is on fire do you want the firemen to put out the fire or just save one room? Save the kitchen, we'll worry about the other rooms later?

DC, you legitimize Jim - he is a kook. You shouldn't be reduced to debating loons - it brings your stature down every time I see you entertaining his specific brand of RWNJ insanity.

This is who you are debating?

Pinkerton: The media "like brown people" and "black people," but "what they really dislike, of course, is white people"

Summary: Referring to news coverage of the May 1 "Day Without Immigrants" demonstrations on Fox News Watch, Newsday columnist James P. Pinkerton claimed that "[t]he media like brown people, but they like black people more." He then added: "[W]hat they really dislike, of course, is white people."

Add a little anti-science - pro-oil company flat earth BS and you lack the credibility you had before you ever started a diavlog with the nut case.

You'd be better off debating someone who is reality based or just speaking into a camera.

  3. What capt just wrote.

Pinkerton is worse than a fool. Fools, at least, are sometimes funny.

  4. Anyone for a long lasting end to the race/nationality card? How about "I'm an American". Without any disagreement with where your grandparents, or parents, were born, where do you live? If you live in France, you are a French citizen. If you live in Germany, you are German. If you live in Russa, you are a Russian. So we end the typos and the uneasiness as to the correct statement regarding an individual standing next to you. If the person lives in the US, has a US passport, then I offer that the correct statement regarding should be, an American. It seems there are some that want to continue to use the dynamic of the hyphen to make a statement. I suggest they are old school, and need to get on with life. Now, when you write your memoirs it would be correct to include your geneology and trace your roots of ancestry, but it is of no benefit to the growth of our American society. We Americans support each other, and are determined to continue as the greatest country in the world.

Hey, even President Obama should be correctly termed an American! I don't think he has a house in Africa anymore.

  6. ""Jim Pinkerton and I ponder all this and more""

wow are you guys significant or what!

""once again, we argue over global warming""

hey fools, this planet has been alternately warming and cooling for billions of years now - even if humans might actually be responsible for the latest insignificant (if at all) warming trend, the earth will survive.
in fact, plants will fully thrive if there is an increase in CO2.
humans are collectively stupid and the earth will be much better off after we foolishly extinct ourselves.

  7. i wonder why the likes of al gore et al are so concerned with so-called global warming whilst ignoring real concerns such as the giant mass of plastic (larger than the contintal US) that is floating in the middle of the pacific ocean.

  8. re: the giant plastic island:

"At this point, cleaning it up isn't an option," Parry said. "It's just going to get bigger as our reliance on plastics continues. ... The long-term solution is to stop producing as much plastic products at home and change our consumption habits."
