I'm marking--not celebrating--a milestone birthday, so I am giving myself the day off. If only I could also give myself a raise....
But please feel free to read my new piece on Newt Gingrich. Among Republicans, was he the big winner of the 2008 elections? Can he save the GOP? Is he a new Newt? Or is he the old Newt gussied up in post-partisan garb? Find out here.

Hey Dave,
I'm right behind you! I thought of a great high school class reunion we should have a big <insert major milestone birthdy here) birthday party! We'd all be the same age.
Happy Birthday! Ilene

Of course, the one personal characteristic of Gingrich that unites these two aspects of his public persona is his enormous ego. He can't stand to be ignored or irrelevant.
Ultimately, that ego and his unfailing arrogance have been both his blessing and his curse. They were his undoing in '98 and, I suspect, would be again, if he were to seek public office again.

Daid Corn, be content that you still have a job and that your pay is not being cut. I know several now in one or the other fix.

A quote from Newt Gingrich:
"If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for thirty days because they get infections and they don't have upper body strength. I mean, some do, but they're relatively rare. On the other hand, men are basically little piglets, you drop them in the ditch, they roll around in it, doesn't matter, you know. These things are very real. On the other hand, if combat means being on an Aegis-class cruiser managing the computer controls for twelve ships and their rockets, a female may be again dramatically better than a male who gets very, very frustrated sitting in a chair all the time because males are biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes."
-- Adjunct Professor Newt Gingrich, Reinhardt College, January 7, 1995, "Renewing American Civilization."

There is no war on terror
If there was, the whole nation would be told to take up arms. Everybody would be armed, even on aircraft. Inexpensive AK47's would be stored in every closet, much like arms are stored in homes all over Switzerland because the Swiss government has nothing to fear from its populace.

Alright, already. You wouldn't tell us what the "milestone" birthday is. So I had to look elsewhere. You're still a young guy. Oh, yes, the Newt Gingrich piece was an interestng one. He certainly believes the face of the Republican party. It was good for the reminder about Gingrich's views on females and the ditch. And that's not even his best. Let's just hope that he succeeds in returning as the GOP's public face. It could, after all, be Michael Steel or Eric Cantor.
