During a conference call with reporters on Sunday, Clinton officials kept whacking Barack Obama for opposing Clinton's proposed gas tax holiday, insisting this was evidence that Obama just doesn't get it and is out of touch with common Americans. Clinton herself on Sunday compared Obama's opposition to the gas tax suspension to the opposition emanating from "elite opinion"--in what seemed to be an attempt to ignite an intra-party class war: I'm with the people; he's with the elites. And on the conference call, Phil Singer, the deputy communications director for Hillary Clinton's campaign, said that Obama
is not connecting with working class voters, real people and we think that's a problem in this election but its also going to be a problem for him going forward if he is the nominee.
Wait-a-minute. Was Singer suggesting that those voters who have voted for Obama--Democrats, independents, and Republicans--are not "real people?" Was he putting down the 15 million or so voters who have cast their ballot for Obama?
Clinton has been credibly accused of once having said "screw 'em," in reference to working-class white voters. But now that her campaign in recent primaries has fared well among this bloc of voters, she is going all-out to woo 'em and to elevate them to the most important group of voters in the entire universe. At the same time, Hillary and her lieutenants are arguing that Obama is too elite (or effete?) to bond with these voters.
There's no doubt that blue-collar voters are important to the electoral prospects of Democrats. Ronald Reagan reigned because he was able to swipe these folks from the Democratic coalition. And Richard Nixon had his successful "Southern strategy," which depended on playing to the racial fears of white working-class voters. But this does not mean that the other parts of the coalition are not "real." Singer and the Clintonites are pushing GOP talking points (about "San Francisco Democrats" and the rest) when they suggest that only the blue-collar Dems are "real" people.
There are millions of Democrats--including many middle-class voters--who have supported Obama. And just as the Dems may not be able to win in November without blue-collar voters on their side, the same can be said about African-American voters. What if pissed-off black voters stay home in Cleveland and Philadelphia? Could a Democratic nominee win Ohio and Pennsylvania? Of course not. They're no less "real" than the Deerhunter voters of Pennsylvania.
Millions of Americans--millions of Democrats--see Obama as a leader and an inspiration. Clinton and her crew ought to be careful in dismissing them as not the real thing. If she somehow manages to win the nomination--which can only happen if she destroys Obama and then persuades superdelegates to overturn the primary and caucus results--she will need these not-so-real voters in the general election.

As for a Gas Tax Holiday, John McCain or Hillary will not be President this summer so how can John McCain or Hillary really Implement this idea into FACT.. they can't! It is a gimmick that they cannot produce on... That is so sad, and another example of Politicians trying to fool people for a vote on an idea or Gift they can't deliver on or produce. It's basically dishonest and a lie! Barack will not make a Phony Promise to the American people!
Media is also disingenuous and complicit in this gas-tax holiday lie and myth! First because they know a President would have to sign off on this and, second because they fail to enquire of Hillary or John, just how they plan to sign this into Law when they in fact will not be President this summer! So,once again the Republican-controlled media fail the people by NOT pointing out the obvious! Failed us as they did with Iraq.
As for the obliteration of Iran remark, we should recall what Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill wrote in position 8 after World War II in The Atlantic Charter, both who knew and were familiar with the horrors of war....
Position "Eighth, they believe that all of the nations of the world, for realistic as well as spiritual reasons must come to the abandonment of the use of force. Since no future peace can be maintained if land, sea or air armaments continue to be employed by nations which threaten, or may threaten, aggression outside of their frontiers, they believe, pending the establishment of a wider and permanent system of general security, that the disarmament of such nations is essential. They will likewise aid and encourage all other practicable measures which will lighten for peace-loving peoples the crushing burden of armaments."
Frankllin D. Roosevelt
Winston S. Churchill
Less we forget!
P.S. On Morning Joe, Joe said as they watched a clip today of Hillary speaking in Indianna and commented on how Inspirational she had become. What they did not say is that the speech sounded an awful lot like a Barack Obama Speech!

"Was he putting down the 15 million or so voters who have cast their ballot for Obama?"
Well, yes. All those silly voters are young (Per bill), delusional and dumb or black.
The only real democratic voters are for HRC. Period.

Hillary also implied that econmists who decline to go along with the gas tax are too elite for America.
Desperation pushes Hillary and her counselors to try and wedge this issue.
I guess they are bowing to the neocons and the Lee Atwaters of this country.
It is a bit sickening to watch Dems pursue GOP tactics.

Clinton Camp Says It Will Use The Nuclear Option
UPDATE | May 5, 11am ET : Hillary Clinton's campaign today acknowledged plans to try to win seating of the disputed Michigan and Florida delegations to the Democratic Nation Convention at a meeting of the party's Rules and Bylaws Committee on May 31.
In a statement issued in response to a story on The Huffington Post ("Clinton Camp Considering Nuclear Option," see below), the campaign declared:
"There is no secret plan.... The Clinton campaign has been vocal in stating that the votes of 2.5 million people must be respected. Hardly a day goes by when a Clinton official doesn't publicly declare that the votes of Michigan and Florida count and that the delegations from those states should be seated."
The campaign's public assertions stand in contrast to its response to inquiries prior to publication of the story. At that point, Clinton aides insisted on keeping all comments either off the record or on deep background, or did not respond to questions at all. The campaign statement appeared to be designed to try to reduce the significance of the story.
In a more typical reaction to the story, political analyst Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia said: "Wow. The nuclear option will yield nuclear winter for the Democratic Party."

Cementing her status as one of the most shameless, soulless panderers of our time, Annie Oakley Clinton has sent out a mailer utterly indistinguishable from what the wingnuts would send.
Too bad her ad staff screwed the mailer up big-time.

Not only is HRC running second in the McCain/Clinton campaign, now her tailor has her wearing Pandersuits.
Watched her yesterday on Stephanopoulos. So where was Obama? And why would he waste his time after the questions he was asked in the PA debate? She ran like a cat on fire from the question of what economist would back her gas tax plan. George was the Clinton White House from 1991-1996, now I understand why he left.
Blacks kept in poverty by 200 years of slavery.
Blacks kept in poverty by 100 years of segregation.
Blacks kept in poverty by perpetual opportunity.
When asked by a black person in North Carolina about prospects of jobs she used the opportunity word five times.
Looking at the latest polls and assuming the undecided follow the rest of the voters, Obama picks up 4-8 more delegates on Tuesday.
Her slogan needs to be "we gain a little in each state but make it up in volume", ignoring the fact that she can't catch up.
Even if she had her delegates from Michigan and Florida, isn't she still behind, assuming the uncommitted from Michigan go to Obama? She only gains about 65 if she has it her way. And what happened to the delegates Edwards won?
With 217 delegates left in primaries after tomorrow, she can at best gain another 20. He still has the clear lead.

Don’t try to pass a salt shaker to John McCain. He won’t take it from your hand because it’s bad luck.
The Arizona senator also won’t throw a hat on a bed — it means death will soon visit the household — but he regularly carries 31 cents in lucky change in his pocket. […]
Mr. McCain has dozens of superstitions and rituals, many stemming from his days as a Navy fighter pilot, a notoriously superstitious bunch. He carries a lucky feather, a lucky compass and a lucky penny — not to mention a lucky nickel and a lucky quarter.

Clinton Camp Hits Obama Over Teamsters Report
On a conference call with reporters this morning, the Clinton campaign knocked Barack Obama over a report in the Wall Street Journal today that Obama "won the endorsement of the Teamsters earlier this year after privately telling the union he supported ending the strict federal oversight imposed to root out corruption."
Clinton has not taken a position on oversight of the Teamsters, and, as the Journal notes, Obama's stance is unusual, as "[p]olicy makers have largely treated monitoring of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters as a legal matter left to the Justice Department since an independent review board was set up in 1992 to eliminate mob influence in the union."
"One has to wonder what exactly Senator Obama's position is," spokesperson Phil Singer said on the call, as TPM points out. "It would appear as though he's taking a position in private and not telling voters about that view."
Obama told ABC this morning that he "wouldn't make any blanket commitments" on the issue.
"What I've said is is that we should take a look at what's been happening over the Teamsters and at all unions, to make sure that in fact organized labor is able to represent it's membership and engage in collective bargaining in accordance to what we've always believed in," Obama added.

Teamsters Defend Endorsement of Obama
The Teamsters union vigorously denied on Monday that its decision to endorse Senator Barack Obama in the presidential race was in any way tied to Mr. Obama’s statement that federal supervision of the union had run its course.
The union also noted that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mr. Obama’s rival for the Democratic nomination, suggested that she might also support ending the union’s consent decree with the federal government when she spoke to the Teamsters’ general executive board last year.
“You can’t go around dragging the ball and the chain of the past,” Mrs. Clinton said on that occasion — the March 27, 2007, meeting of the board — according to an audio tape that the union made available. “And I think that’s true for anybody, any organization, any individual,” she continued. “And so I would be very open to looking at that, and to saying, ‘What are we trying to accomplish here?’ and see what the answers were. At some point, you turn the page and go on.”

In the Alice-In-Wonderland world that has become presidential politics lately, it has come to this: Hillary Clinton, who has resided in a chauffeur-driven bubble for the past 20 years, is portraying herself as a man of the people. Barack Obama, raised by a single mother and who paid off his college loans just a few years ago, is the elite snob. And John McCain, married to a beer heiress, charges that Obama is "insensitive to the hopes and dreams and ambitions" of millions of Americans.

capt. I saw that episode on 30Rock last week. Tina Fey didn't get her sandwich on Teamsters Day and her writers had to negotiate with the Teamsters. In their version the blond had to have a drinking contest with the Teamsters members. How life mirrors art. Hillary probably got the scoop while drinking with the teamsters.

No Endgame
[...]
Whatever the outcome of this week’s primaries, the pressure to resolve the Democratic contest can only increase. How Clinton will respond is unclear: her campaign seems to have entered a new, almost mystical phase, in which the number of votes received or delegates pledged no longer matters. “We don’t think this is just going to be about some numerical metric,” Geoff Garin, one of her chief strategists, recently told the Washington Post. After her back-from-the-dead victory in Ohio, Clinton committed herself to soldiering on not despite but because of the fact that the situation seemed hopeless. For everyone “across America who’s ever been counted out but refused to be knocked out, and for everyone who has stumbled but stood right back up, and for everyone who works hard and never gives up,” she said, “this one is for you.” That message understandably resonates with voters who, when they are not bitterly clinging to their guns and their religion, are having trouble meeting their mortgage payments. As long as Clinton is willing to fight on simply for the sake of fighting, there really is no reason that this endless campaign has to end.
