How the Country Used to Be, and How It Will Be Again

I am Justin Kiracofe. I am 15 years old. My mother asked me to write an essay about what this Inauguration means to me. My parents and grandparents are always talking about how great this country "USED to be." This Inauguration represents the beginning of our return to that greatness domestically and on the world stage as well as a renewal of our collective pride.

I couldn't attend the Inaugural events in person because my school scheduled our final exams for this week, starting Tuesday but January 20th has significance to me (us) all the same.

"Obama's election has brought great Hope to America and with it an awakening among its electorate of the Purpose and Opportunity born of the seeds of Hope that made this country the envy of many around the world and that brought them here with visions of attaining their greatest potential.

In electing Barack and Joe as President and Vice President, we have demonstrated JFK's edict, "We hold the view that the people make the best judgment in the long run" and Walt Whitman's proclamation, "The genius of the United States is not best or most in its executives or legislatures, nor in its ambassadors or authors or colleges, or churches, or parlors, nor even in its newspapers or inventors, but always most in the common people."

I had wanted to attend the Inauguration to bear witness, to share, to represent my Generation, to be a part of the reawakening of this country to its greatest resource; the power of its People, the strength of its Ideals, the Promise of its Hope to bring about Opportunity for all to reach their highest Potential and Purpose.

  1. Typo in the last paragraph (missing words in first sentence) but otherwise, NICE!
