Geographically speaking, Michael Jones of Purcellville, Va., didn't have to come far to get to Barack Obama's inauguration on Tuesday.
Jones, a network engineer, caught a bus with his family at 3:30 a.m., got on the Metro at West Falls Church at 4:02 a.m. and were stationed on the Mall near 14th street by 8:45 a.m. -- a simple five-hour commute.
Emotionally, though, it was much more of a trip.
"I made this trip, of course, for my parents. The march on Washington, with Dr. King, I always felt I wanted to be here. I had to be here, come hell or high water."
Jones' mother died in August 2007, his father 15 years ago. Even at the end, Jones says nothing would have kept his mother from attending the inauguration.

Mr. Jones is a former United States Marine who loves this country. He is also very interested in the political process. Mr. Jones would be eager to accept a position in the political forum; should the right opportunity present itself.

As a former Marine who served with Mr. Jones, not only did he represent his family, but all of us who couldn,t witness history first-hand, Semper Fi. As the son/nephew/grandson of men who served this country, without the right of true representation, the thought of a Black POTUS was a script change I never thought I'd witness in my lifetime. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoy the apoplectic visages of those on the right, who think a Black POTUS is a serious threat to their very way of life - priceless....... As for the " exceptionally handsome" prologue - eh.....
